In addition to its’ active exhibition program as one of the leading galleries for contemporary art in Canada, the Wynick/Tuck Gallery also provides a variety of additional, on-going services, including appraisals and resale of work from collections.

Appraisals

Many works held in collections for some time have increased considerably in value.

The gallery provides professional appraisal services and professional advice to many individual, corporate and institutional collectors for insurance, donation, tax, estate and other purposes, for artists it represents and in its areas of expertise. A written appraisal report containing a full description of your artwork is provided, as is the usual requirement for legal and financial purposes. Evaluations are based on the nature of the work, the history of the artwork and the artist, condition, rarity and a careful examination of prices realized for similar works. Our position and engagement in the community and current art market enable us to make judgments assessments that are accurate and expert.

In addition to founding and operating the gallery, Directors Lynne Wynick and David Tuck possess substantial combined experience, knowledge and resources.  Both directors have served on the boards and/or committees of many arts organizations and institutions, including the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board (CCPERB); the Board, Executive and Appraisal Committee of the Professional Art Dealers Association of Canada (now ADAC); the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Doris McCarthy Gallery of the University of Toronto and the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Toronto.   

Sale of Your Artwork

We would be pleased to advise you about potential sale or donation of artwork from your collection. The gallery provides a stable, discrete and confidential alternative to auctions in selling works on your behalf. We will provide the current market price and access our considerable collector list to place the work. The gallery may also buy works outright.

We can also include key works in exhibitions, such as our upcoming survey exhibitions of the work of Doris McCarthy and Greg Curnoe. For Doris McCarthy, almost any period is in demand, but particularly her Arctic and Newfoundland work from 1970 onward.  Early works from the 30’s 40’s and 50’s are also especially sought after. The rare McCarthy painting shown above is such a work. It is currently being offered for sale and will be featured in our McCarthy exhibition beginning February 23 and running to March 29. For Greg Curnoe, we have, in particular, many requests for his bicycle, wheel and circle work as well as the later self- portrait work.

Requirements

For Sale of Artwork : Please contact the Gallery directly.

For Appraisals : Please provide as much of the following information as possible:

-A good quality colour image of the front and, if possible, back of the artwork. Either colour prints, transparencies/slides or medium-resolution digital images, are acceptable.

-Artist, title, size, medium, date, signature (please show in photo), condition.

-The history/provenance of the artwork (e.g. when and where acquired / copy of original invoice, if available).

-Other useful supporting documentation that may be available for the artwork. (e.g. previous appraisals and certificates of authenticity)
